Midtown Manhattan NYC Dentist Dr. Yelena Simkha Specializes in Dental Extractions

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Dental extractions can be as difficult as pulling teeth – actually – that’s just what dental extractions are.  The medical term for dental extraction is known as exodontia.  A Dental extraction is simply the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Dental extractions are performed for a variety of reasons.  Dental extractions may be performed due to tooth decay that is beyond restoration.  Dental extractions may also be performed to make space for orthodontic treatment.  Another reason for dental extractions is due to impacted or problematic wisdom teeth.  Severe gum disease may be a contributing factor to necessitate a dental extraction.  Dental extractions are most commonly performed in cases of tooth damage due to tooth breakage or tooth decay.

Dental Extraction Midtown Manhattan DentistMany people are worried about visiting the dentist for fear they will need a dental extraction.  In all actuality, dental extractions should be considered as another aspect of good oral hygiene and they are not very common.

Once a tooth is damaged beyond dental repair, dental extraction should be performed.  Teeth that are misaligned or out of position may also need to undergo dental extraction.

Sometimes it is best that cracked teeth, broken teeth, and deeply decayed teeth be removed through dental extraction.   Sometimes dental extraction is the easier and more cost effective solution.

At our Midtown Manhattan Dental Office, Dr. Yelena Simkha specializes in the latest dental procedures including dental extraction.

Cosmetic Dentist in Midtown Manhattan Offers Invisalign and Much More!

Friday, October 15th, 2010

Dental problems can occur in dental patients who practice the best oral hygiene.  There are several factors that can contribute to dental issues, so it is important to make regular dental appointments.

Dentistry has made many strides in the past 15 years – especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry.  Today there are several innovative dental procedures that are not only effective – but convenient.

Midtown Manhattan DentistIn Midtown Manhattan, there is a great deal of demand for cosmetic dental procedures that improve the look of their teeth and improve their self esteem.

Invisalign is a very popular procedure used to straighten the teeth and closes gaps between the teeth.  Invisalign features clear braces (invisible braces) that are not painful as wire braces are known to be.  Transparent teeth aligners are used and are not permanently cemented to the teeth like traditional braces.  Invisalign teeth aligners can be removed and replaced very easily by the patient.

Dental Implants present a long term solution for the replacement of missing teeth.  Dental Implants can be placed into the location of a lost tooth.  The process is very convenient.

Root Canal is performed when the pulp tissue needs to be removed from the interiors of the tooth. In the typical root canal treatment, the cosmetic dentist removes the diseased tissue while filling the space with synthetic tooth enamel to prevent further decay.

Teeth Whitening is a cosmetic dentistry procedure used to repair teeth that have become discolored due to factors such as smoking, poor eating habits, poor oral hygiene and the normal aging process.  Teeth Whitening give patients confidence to smile whereas they used to be self conscious about showing their teeth.

Invisalign is a commonly offered dental solution to misaligned teeth or patients with spaces between their teeth.  If you are interested in finding out more about Invisalign clear braces, schedule a visit with Dr. Yelena Simkha at Prestige Dental in Midtown Manhattan – the best dentist in Midtown Manhattan NY!

How Dentist Visits Can Save Your Life!

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Good oral hygiene can help you stay healthy and live longer.  Brushing your teeth twice each day can prevent gum disease.  Research shows that gum disease may be linked to heart disease, strokes, respiratory problems, diabetes and pregnancy issues.  Some say the eyes are the mirror of the soul – well the mouth is considered the mirror of the body.

Midtown Manhattan Dentist VisitPeople with gum disease are much more likely to experience heart problems.  Mouth cancer is more likely to affect those with gum disease as well.

However, early detection by a dental professional can keep you healthy.  It is important to schedule regular dental appointments.

Do you have sore gums or do your teeth bleed during tooth brushing?  This is generally the first sign of what dentists call gingivitis.  Left untreated, this condition can develop into periodontitis – inflammation of the gums.  Gum disease, not tooth decay, is the leading cause of a person’s teeth falling out.

To reiterate, it is crucial to your health to schedule regular dentist visits.  It is also important for you to brush your teeth twice each day for two minutes with a good fluoride toothpaste.  Flossing is also important as it helps to remove plaque from between the teeth which helps to keep teeth and gums healthy.

Even if you are not experiencing pain or bleeding during brushing, you still need to get regular dental check-ups.  Feel free to call our dental office today and let Dr. Yelena Simkha and our dental professionals take good care of you and help you take good care of your own teeth as well.

It may be a good idea for you to role play about what the visit to the dentist will be like.  It may also be a good idea for the parent to sit in the dental chair and have the child sit on the parent’s lap for the duration of the dental visit.

Regular visits to dentist can pay off for women in several ways.  In addition to having beautiful looking teeth and a great smile, women who visit the dentist regularly also may have less heart problems.  A new dental study by UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health claims that women who make regular visits to a dentist and practice good oral hygiene reduce the risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems by 33%.

The dental study examined men and women who visited a dentist during the previous two years compared with men and women who had not visited the dentist.

Researchers found a correlation between women who visited the dentist and women who did not have a visit to the dentist.  There was no such benefit found for men who visited the dentist and those who did not visit the dentist.   The dental study suggested that estrogen in women helped to prevent heart disease.

There have been several studies linking dental care and cardiovascular disease, but this study boasts that it is the first study to show that general dental care can lead to a reduction in heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular problems.

This dental longitudinal study followed the same people over time.  Subjects were studied over time and were categorized based on whether they had visited the dentist and whether or not they experienced heart problems.
